Undefeated rising sensation Tim Tszyu will defend his 154-pound world title against all-action opponent Sebastian Fundora on Saturday, March 30 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The co-main fight will pit hard-hitting Mexican star Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz against super lightweight world champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero.
Tszyu will fight for the WBO belt and the vacant WBC super welterweight title. Thurman, a former welterweight champion, was scheduled to face Tszyu in a non-title match. Before Fundora received the call to take Thurman’s place, he was scheduled to challenge Serhii Bohachuk for the vacant WBC belt. Thurman had not fought since 2022 and had been forced to withdraw from the bout due to a training injury
Tim Tszyu, a bronze medallist at the 2011 Australian National Championships, is the son of former world champion Kostya Tszyu. After turning pro in 2016, “The Soul Taker” gained notoriety in 2020 by defeating former welterweight champion Jeff Horn. After that, he defeated opponents like Tony Harrison, Terrell Gausha, and Dennis Hogan, winning the final fight via TKO to claim the interim WBO super welterweight title.
Fundora debuted professionally in 2016. In 2022, “The Towering Inferno” defeated Erickson Lubin to win the WBC super welterweight title in an interim capacity. In April 2023, he lost by knockout to former world champion Brian Mendoza. That was his final match. Now, the 26-year-old Fundora is prepared for a more intense battle.
